Strengthening Ties:
Denmark's Role in Advancing Australia's Wind Energy Future
Denmark is deepening its engagement in Australia’s growing wind energy sector, leveraging its extensive experience in offshore wind to support the country’s renewable energy ambitions. Mr. Ulrik Dahl, Consul General and Trade Commissioner at the Royal Danish Consulate, highlighted Denmark’s strategic partnership with Australia at the Australia Wind Energy 2024 conference, emphasizing the importance of collaboration to ensure a stable and secure market for wind energy development.
Mr. Dahl underscored Denmark’s long history in the wind energy industry, noting that Denmark was the first country to build an offshore wind park back in 1991. “Denmark’s experience in wind energy is unparalleled,” he said, pointing out that the country’s expertise spans from development to manufacturing, and is now being shared with Australia to help accelerate its green transition.
As Denmark continues to support its companies in entering the Australian market, Dahl stressed the need for a consistent project pipeline and legislative certainty to foster investor confidence. “A stable demand over a longer period is crucial,” Dahl remarked, adding that it enables the establishment of a robust supply chain and the involvement of local communities in the renewable energy sector.
The partnership between Denmark and Australia is seen as a vital component in Australia’s journey to decarbonize and meet its Paris Agreement commitments. Mr. Dahl concluded by expressing optimism for the future, hoping that by next year, significant progress will have been made in advancing Australia’s offshore wind projects.

“One key lesson we've learned in Denmark is the importance of stable, long-term policy frameworks. For Australia's wind market to thrive, it’s crucial to establish a consistent project pipeline—this certainty will empower investors, build a local supply chain, and ensure that the green transition benefits everyone, especially at the local level.
